Speech, Language and Hearing Screenings at Tierstel Daycare

Over the past few weeks, fourth-year Speech- , Language- , and Hearing Therapy students from Stellenbosch University have visited our Tierstel Daycare Centre to conduct essential screenings as part of their course practicals.

During their time at the daycare centre, the students performed a range of important assessments, including hearing screenings, general developmental evaluations, and speech and language screenings. These screenings help to identify any potential challenges early, allowing for timely interventions that can support the children’s growth and development. It is reassuring to know that our learners are receiving thorough evaluations, which are crucial for their future academic and social success.

In farming communities like ours, access to specialised healthcare services can be limited. Early detection of developmental, hearing, and speech-language issues is vital in ensuring that children are given the best possible start in life. These screenings play a critical role in identifying issues that, if left unaddressed, could hinder a child’s ability to communicate effectively and succeed in educational settings. By bringing these services to Tierstel Daycare, we are helping to bridge the gap between rural communities and essential health services, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

We are thankful for the collaboration with Stellenbosch University and look forward to continuing this important work with our learners and their families.
