The People Behind the DTK Mobile Library

The new partnership between Iconic Wines and Du Toitskloof Wines has led to significant improvements on our new mobile library. However, at the heart of the mobile library lies in the dedication and hard work of its employees. More than just a travelling book collection, the mobile library is a vital source of learning, made possible through the efforts of Franscois January and Charlet Moses. Their commitment ensures that the library and media centre function smoothly, providing access to books, educational programmes, laptops, WiFi, and a supportive learning environment for all who step onto the bus.

Franscois, as the driver, ensures that the bus reaches its destinations safely, maintains its cleanliness, manages discipline during sessions, and assists with laptop programmes. Charlet, as the librarian and media centre coordinator, organises the library, assists learners with book selections, teaches educational programmes on laptops, plans the monthly schedule, covers and maintains books, registers all users, and ensures the space remains tidy and welcoming. Together, they create an environment where learning is engaging, structured, and beneficial for all who step onto the bus.

Both Franscois and Charlet take great pride in their work, finding joy in assisting and supporting learners on their educational journey, visiting a new school every day, and learning from teachers on how to better support and uplift learners.

Our mobile library functions through close collaboration with each school’s principal and teachers, who have welcomed us into their spaces with open arms. This partnership ensures that the library and media centre remain relevant and beneficial to all learners. During school holidays, we station ourselves at Lorraine NGK Primary to assist with their holiday programme, continuing to bring learning opportunities to children even outside of term time.

The mobile library is not just about books – it’s about creating a future filled with knowledge, skills, and hope. We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive and look forward to continuing our journey of education and empowerment!
