Fairtrade Africa Visits Du Toitskloof

March was an exciting month for Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiative. Members from Fairtrade Africa’s head office, based in Kenya, paid us a lovely visit, overseeing our projects and sharing ideas.

Two representatives (Youth Development and Partnership Development), from Fairtrade Africa, as well as one of our local project coordinators observed and evaluated our current initiatives. The aim was to learn more about our running projects, but also to find out in what areas they can offer assistance with regards to these projects. They visited all three of our daycare centres, the mobile library, clinic, computer lab and the 2Blossom centre.

This was also an opportunity for us to learn how projects in other areas are being managed, and to understand in which areas Fairtrade Africa’s head office would like to see development. Our visitors were especially interested areas focussing on youth development (21 - 35 year-olds) and women empowerment - especially female youth. So, we were presented with ideas to channel this new avenue.

We are grateful to have had this opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Fairtrade Africa’s team. Visits between different Fairtrade initiatives offer us the chance to learn and to work together, all to the benefit of our beneficiaries and community.
