A Fun Sports Day at Tierstel Daycare

On a sunny day in Rawsonville, the Tierstel Daycare Centre, part of the Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiative (DTK Fairtrade), buzzed with laughter and excitement as children participated in an interactive sports day. Organised by Danél Louw, a registered kinderkineticist at Muscle Up Kinetics, this interactive event was a delightful celebration of movement, play, and connection.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, children and facilitators from Onderplaas Daycare Centre were specially transported to Tierstel, so that all our daycare children could play and work together. The little ones—ranging from babies to five-year-olds—engaged in a variety of engaging activities designed to inspire joy and promote healthy development.

Fun and Games

The sports day featured a creative line-up of friendly competitions and sensory play, tailored to the needs and interests of young children. The children crawled through tunnels, taking on a fun challenge that encouraged motor skill development and problem-solving. They delighted in pasting balls on tape in hoops, which showcased their coordination and focus. Sensory exploration was a highlight, as shaving cream, colourful spaghetti, and rice provided a tactile wonderland that sparked curiosity and creativity. Ball activities, ranging from rolling to tossing, introduced fundamental sports skills in an age-appropriate way.

Every moment was filled with smiles, cheers, and plenty of photo opportunities for proud facilitators and carers. The variety of activities ensured that every child, regardless of age or ability, could join in the fun.

Building Connections and Skills

This sports day was more than just a fun outing; it was a meaningful experience that nurtured essential skills. Through play and movement, the children developed their physical skills, as gross and fine motor abilities were strengthened through exploration of different activities. They also built social connections by interacting with peers from another daycare centre, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging. Additionally, problem-solving and imaginative play contributed to their cognitive growth, enriching their learning in joyful ways.

A Big Thank You

Events like these are made possible by the dedication and collaboration of individuals and organisations committed to creating opportunities for children. A heartfelt thank you goes to Danél Louw and Muscle Up Kinetics for their expertise and enthusiasm, as well as to the facilitators from Tierstel and Onderplaas Daycare Centres for their support and encouragement. In addition, a great gratitude goes out to partners, clients and sponsors as well as supporters of our Fairtrade accredited wine, who make the daily runnings of our daycare centres possible.

The success of this sports day highlights the importance of fostering active, playful, and inclusive environments for children to thrive.
