Our Fairtrade Community Clinic 2023-2024

The Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiative clinic plays a vital role in bridging the gap between healthcare and the rural community. Being able to provide basic healthcare to our Fairtrade employees has always been of critical importance, not only for the longevity and health of our farming and production, but for the longevity and empowerment of our working communities.

Our rural community clinic provides basic medical services, maternal and child healthcare, chronic disease management and even basic eye care to all our Fairtrade beneficiaries. We also invest in outreach programmes (with the help of our mobile clinic) to ensure that even remote families and individuals are reached.

In August 2023 our Fairtrade clinic offered medical examinations - an integral part of occupational health and safety (OHS) programmes. Occupational health and safety is about more than just regulations; it is about safeguarding the well-being of every individual working hard on our farms. Employees’ physical and mental fitness for specific jobs were assessed by an external Occupation Health and Safety practitioner to identify potential health risks in the workplace. Specialised examinations were performed to ensure that employees working with hazardous chemicals and sprays understand the risks and potential hazards, in order to take precautions and comply with health and safety requirements.

Clinic cases per gender, per month from April 2023 to March 2024.

In the span of April 2023 to March 2024, our Fairtrade community clinic assisted 2 475 individuals:

  • 1 799 for Primary Healthcare

  • 229 for Chronic Medication and Visits

  • 295 for Family Planning

We are grateful for what our healthcare team and programme achieved over the past year and for all the people whom we could reach through this initiative. Together, through this initiative, we can build towards a healthier, brighter tomorrow.
